FORMER premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed penned a heartfelt tribute to his dear friend - former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin who died earlier today at the Assunta Hospital.

Dr Mahathir cited in the tribute which resembled a poem that he is now suffering from immeasurable grief.

He described Daim, a lawyer as a friend, who was with him in the struggle for race, country and religion.

"He (Daim) should have been revered because of his contributions to the struggle. But unfortunately at the later stages of his life, he was abused with no plausible reason."

Without any reason, but just because of vengeance - this is the outcome of vengeance, Dr Mahathir said.

Dr Mahathir prayed that Daim's soul will have a place among the righteous of those who had struggled for their race.

"I can only afford to pray," he said.

The nation's longest serving prime minister who served the country twice from 1981 to 2003 and again from 2018 to 2020, is believed to have a special relationship with Daim, who was the Finance Minister from 1984 to 1989 and again from 1991 to 2001.
