SARAWAK DAP Youth wants the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government to explain its expenditures of RM 21 billion in "alternative fundings" using government-associated companies.
Its Youth secretary George Lam said DAP Sarawak had found that the RM 21 billion funding outside of the State Budget was approved in the State Legislative Assembly.
"Over the 2023 to 2025 period, RM 21 billion had been approved by the state government in the form of alternative fundings by its associated companies that had bypassed the State Assembly Budget.
"These are expenditures outside of the normal annual Budget that must be tabled and approved in the State Assembly sitting.
"State DAP chairman Chong Chien Jen (who is state assemblyman for Padungan) had tried to raise this alternative funding query during the recent State Legislative Assembly in Kuching but his attempts to question the Finance Minister met with vague responses.
"The state government owes an explanation to the rakyat," he said in a statement.
Lam said DAP Youth is also unhappy that the state government had failed to clearly explain its expenditure of RM 122 million for a contract to buy 55 buses with hydrogen engines.
He said DAP Pending state assemblywoman Violet Yong had raised this query in the assembly sitting but state leaders had failed to give a proper answer.
"This goes to show that we in Sarawak need to have a stronger opposition voice.
"The rakyat in Sarawak must vote for a bigger opposition representation in the coming state election," he said. - December 11, 2024
