Go back to basics, Yusmadi urges PKR

GEORGE TOWN – PKR needs to go back to basics, meaning pushing for institutional reform and fighting for justice, said Senator Yusmadi Yusoff.

He told The Vibes that his party has lost its way after the shock exit of some of its leaders and their move to “backstab” the Pakatan Harapan coalition.

“Since the ‘backdoor government’ came into being in March, I have been championing the need to go back to the roots of the party, which is reform.”

It is disheartening to be betrayed by party colleagues, who chose to forsake reforms for power, he said.

The former Balik Pulau MP said PKR should reset itself, and focus on undertaking the necessary changes in the wake of the country’s political, economic and public health crises.

He said there is a need to introduce “reforms 2.0” and reach out to youth.

The Covid-19 pandemic serves as a grim reminder that Malaysia needs reforms in areas to do with transparency, accountability and capability, he said.

“The virus has exposed our shortcomings as a nation.

“We need to be mindful that Malaysia is a relatively small country that needs every citizen to be united and act as a role model, coming together to fight this pandemic.” – The Vibes, December 22, 2020
