Myvi – the vehicle most involved in accidents last year

THE 'King of the Road' - Perodua Myvi topped the list of vehicles most frequently involved in accidents last year.

This was revealed by Vehicle Theft and Accident Reduction Council (VTAREC) coordinator Mas Tina Abdul Hamid, who said insurance industry records revealed a total of 24,628 claims made involving the Perodua Myvi in 2024.

According to reports, the next on the list was the Proton Saga with 16,159 claims and Honda City with 13,388.

"This is not just a claim and based on statistics," she said during a briefing at the soft launch of the VTAREC 2025 public awareness campaign on vehicle theft and road accidents.

As for motorcycles, she said the Yamaha 135LC topped the list as the machine most frequently involved in accidents, with almost 3,000 cases.

This was followed by the Yamaha Y15ZR with 2,154.

"Both the Yamaha 135LC and Y15ZR accounted for about 30 per cent of total motorcycle accidents last year," she said.

Overall, she said Malaysia recorded a total of 266,716 accidents last year.

Car accidents made up the highest number, with 229,739 cases, followed by 21,828 involving commercial vehicles and motorcycles (15,149). - May 6, 2025
