UMNO appoints Johari Ghani as head of special team to refine Urban Renewal Bill

UMNO announced the appointment of the party's Vice President, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani to lead the party's special team for the improvement of the Urban Renewal Bill.

Party secretary-general, Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a statement announced that the special team is responsible for examining and refining every aspect of the Bill in detail before it is presented at the Urban Malays Convention.

"This special team is responsible for examining and refining every aspect of the Bill in detail before it is presented at the Urban Malays Convention," he said.

He added that the Urban Malays Convention will involve the top UMNO leadership from states and divisions throughout Malaysia, Malay political parties, non-governmental organisations, academics and civil society which will be held at the end of September.

The Urban Malays Convention resolution will later be submitted to Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also the Barisan Nasional chairman called for the Bill to be deferred until the next Dewan Rakyat session to enable more comprehensive engagement with all interested parties and stakeholders. – September 3, 2025
