MORE than 20 residents were reported trapped after the Kampung Simpang 4 Dalam area in Perak was inundated by floodwaters early Monday morning.
According to Acting Assistant Director of Operations for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah, an emergency call regarding the incident was received at 6:02am.
He said a team from the Tanjung Malim Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), with support from BBP Slim River, was immediately dispatched to the scene.
"The Operations Commander and 16 personnel were deployed with three vehicles, namely a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT), and a utility van," he said in a statement on Monday.
"Upon arrival at the location, it was found that the area was flooded and more than 20 residents were trapped," he added.
He noted that the water level was still rising at the time and that rescue operations were ongoing as of 6:50am.
"The fire and rescue team is currently focused on evacuating the trapped victims to a safe location," he said.
Earlier the same day, at least 400 campers at a campsite in Kerling, Kuala Kubu Bharu, Hulu Selangor faced a harrowing ordeal after being stranded due to a sudden surge of river water.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division Assistant Director, Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, said the department received an emergency call at 5:47am.
He said a team of six personnel along with a fire engine from the Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Station was rushed to the scene.
"Upon arrival, all victims were instructed to move to higher and safer ground," he said when contacted.
"Personnel then conducted monitoring operations until the water levels subsided," he added.
Ahmad Mukhlis confirmed that the rain had since eased and floodwaters had receded. - September 15, 2025
