A MAN wanted in connection with several criminal cases was apprehended by police on Thursday afternoon following a dramatic confrontation at a commercial centre in the Tuaran district.

Tuaran District Police Chief, Superintendent Noraidin Ag Maidin, said the suspect was detained at approximately 3pm after officers located the vehicle he was travelling in near the area.

“A raiding team approached the suspect’s vehicle and found a man seated in the driver’s seat,” Noraidin said in a statement.

“Police personnel identified themselves and displayed their warrant cards. Upon realising the presence of law enforcement, the suspect suddenly reversed his vehicle at speed and rammed into the police vehicle stationed behind him.”

Noraidin added that the suspect repeatedly struck the police car in an effort to escape, prompting officers to forcibly enter the vehicle.

“As the suspect continued his attempts to flee, police were compelled to break the front passenger-side window in order to execute the arrest,” he said, noting that a struggle ensued during the apprehension.

“Minimal force was used during the arrest. No firearms were discharged at any point during the operation.”

Superintendent Noraidin urged the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading speculation that could interfere with ongoing police investigations. - September 26, 2025
