THAILAND authorities have detained a man believed to have fatally shot a Malaysian citizen at a house in Golok, Thailand in a latest development.
The suspect, a man in his 30s, surrendered to police at the Sungai Golok station last night.
Security sources confirmed the suspect, reportedly a former Kelantan football player in his 30s, holds dual citizenship, both Thai and Malaysian.
“We arrested him after he came forward to surrender last night and he possesses two identification documents,” a source said.
The victim, 33-year-old Mohd Fuad Fahmie Ghazali, a bag and gemstone trader, reportedly sustained 18 gunshot wounds inflicted by two known assailants. He was pronounced dead at Sungai Golok Hospital at 9pm after suffering severe injuries.
The tragedy has left his heavily pregnant wife, Wan Fatihah Mat Husin, in shock.
“My daughter-in-law is still very sad and traumatised because the incident was so tragic, happening right in front of her eyes,” said Zaiton Abdul Rahman, 64, the victim’s mother.
“She could not even stay in our home because she keeps imagining her husband being shot repeatedly while defending her for fear the bullets would hit her.”
Zaiton added that her daughter-in-law returned to her mother’s home in Golok, Thailand, last night, but she plans to bring her to Malaysia via the Rantau Panjang ICQS complex this afternoon.
“Tomorrow and Wednesday, she needs to see a doctor for a prenatal check-up. God willing, she will deliver here and recuperate at our home. I pray that our family remains strong in facing this loss,” she said.
Authorities have informed the family that the suspect’s whereabouts were successfully tracked, though Zaiton emphasised that she leaves the matter in the hands of the police, hoping the perpetrator receives justice. - November 3, 2025
