MINISTER of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP), Datuk Ewon Benedick has raised questions about his position in the Cabinet when he attended a farewell ceremony organised by his ministry's staff in Putrajaya yesterday.
Sources told Berita Harian that Ewon also stated that he would be on leave from November 11 to 29, but did not mention resigning.
In a meeting with KUSKOP residents and agencies in Temerloh last week, he was quoted as saying, "This may be my last speech as the Minister of KUSKOP and thank you to everyone who served in the ministry. I am very sure that I will return to serve in Sabah."
Ewon was previously reported to have said that he was ready to resign as a minister if the Federal Government filed an appeal against the Kota Kinabalu High Court's decision confirming Sabah's constitutional right to receive 40 percent of the federal revenue collected from the state.
In his closing speech at the previous UPKO Penampang convention, Ewon stated that he had informed the Prime Minister and two Deputy Prime Ministers, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, as well as other ministers, about his stance.
Ewon said at the time that the decision was in line with the resolution passed by the Penampang Division UPKO Convention previously, which demanded that he resign from the Cabinet if the Attorney General's Chambers continued with the appeal.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General, Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, when contacted by BH, said that the AGC was still examining whether or not to appeal the Kota Kinabalu High Court's decision. – November 8, 2025
