THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has denied allegations by Pandan MP Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli that the agency was used to target candidates during Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) internal elections in May 2025.

In a statement, MACC described Rafizi’s claims — made in a podcast — as “baseless and untrue,” stressing that investigations are only carried out based on complaints or credible information received.

“Every complaint with basis will undergo verification and investigation processes according to the laws and established procedures,” MACC said.

MACC also rejected Rafizi’s assertion that the commission “surrounded” the home of a particular individual during a probe, clarifying that investigating officers had merely visited the residence to meet the individual and conduct a legally sanctioned search.

The agency explained that such operations may involve elements of surprise to prevent potential destruction of evidence.

Upon confirming that the individual was not home, officers left the location, and the person later presented himself voluntarily at the MACC office, had his statement recorded, and was released without detention.

“All actions were in line with investigation protocols and any parties dissatisfied with its conduct can lodge complaints through official channels such as the police or MACC’s Complaints Committee,” it added.

In an episode of his podcast Yang Berhenti Menteri, Rafizi alleged that several PKR members became subjects of MACC investigations after falling out of favour with certain party leaders.

He claimed that candidates who contested against Nurul Izzah Anwar for the deputy president post were among those investigated, suggesting the issue was linked to internal party rivalries rather than actual wrongdoing.

Rafizi cited an instance involving a Selangor-based political figure aligned with him, alleging that the individual was detained and investigated for purchasing a property in cash.

He claimed MACC’s actions caused distress to the individual’s family when officers allegedly came to the house, prompting Rafizi to contact Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to intervene.

According to Rafizi, the individual later went to MACC with legal representation, and he believed the probe was tied more to the PKR election than the property purchase. – December 8, 2025
