THE Road Transport Department (JPJ) has identified 288 road accident hotspots nationwide that will receive heightened monitoring and enforcement during the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri travel period.
Its director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli said patrols will be intensified in many of the high-risk locations, with enforcement officers deployed directly on the ground to manage safety and compliance.
“I have instructed that all JPJ enforcement vehicles be on the roads throughout the Aidilfitri festive season (for operational duties).
“Not a single one will remain at the office,” he said at the Ihya Ramadan Akrab JPJ and Community programme at the Section 17 Bus Terminal Shah Alam on Friday.
The department will also carry out a nationwide Aidilfitri enforcement operation lasting two weeks starting today, involving nearly 3,000 personnel.
According to Aedy Fadly, the operation will focus on nine major traffic offences, including speeding, running traffic signals such as red lights and overtaking along double lines.
Additional offences targeted during the operation include overloading vehicles and using mobile phones while driving.
He said the installation of the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) has significantly improved road user compliance and helped reduce accident rates, including at high-risk areas such as the Menora Tunnel in Perak.
The department will also continue conducting surprise inspections at bus terminals and deploying undercover officers aboard express buses to ensure passenger safety.
Meanwhile, a temporary ban on the movement of goods vehicles will be enforced over four days — on March 19 and 20, as well as March 28 and 29 — as part of efforts to ease congestion and improve road safety during the festive travel period. - March 14, 2026
