THE Road Transport Department (JPJ) recorded 2,384 traffic offences within the first three days of its Hari Raya Aidilfitri enforcement operation, with high-powered drones playing a central role in detecting violations.
Senior Enforcement Director Datuk Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the offences were captured between 16 March and focused on four major violations identified as leading causes of road accidents.
These included overtaking on double lines, running red lights, queue cutting or overtaking from the left, and misuse of emergency lanes.
He said overtaking on double lines accounted for the highest number of cases, with 715 recorded, followed by failure to obey traffic signals at 627 cases, queue cutting or overtaking from the left at 539 cases, and use of emergency lanes at 503 cases.
"Meanwhile, the highest number of offences were detected in the Klang Valley, Kelantan and Selangor.
"The JPJ will issue notices to all offenders recorded committing these offences, and those who admit guilt and make payment within 15 days will receive a 50 per cent reduction in the compound, amounting to RM150.
"However, if payment is made after that period, the compound may increase to RM300," he said.
He was speaking at a press conference following a special motorcycle enforcement operation held in conjunction with the festive period at the East Region JPJ Academy.
Elaborating further, Muhammad Kifli said the deployment of high-capability drones was intended to strengthen enforcement efforts, particularly in identified traffic hotspots.
"The use of these drones is equipped with high technical specifications, including zoom capabilities of up to 200 times, enabling clear detection of vehicle registration numbers even from a distance, and every offence recorded will be used as evidence for enforcement action.
"This approach allows traffic monitoring to be carried out in a more comprehensive, accurate and effective manner, including detecting offences that are difficult to identify through conventional ground monitoring," he said. - March 20, 2026
