A 46-YEAR-OLD man lost his life and his eight-year-old daughter sustained serious injuries after the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in veered off the North–South Expressway and struck a roadside barrier at Kilometer 155.8 southbound yesterday.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 5pm as the family of three were heading towards Johor Bahru.
The deceased, Sufaat Aini, suffered severe head and bodily injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
Tangkak District Police Chief Superintendent Roslan Mohd Talib said the MPV was being driven by the victim’s 41-year-old wife, who reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the barrier on the left side of the highway. “The impact left the front-seat passenger, the husband, critically injured. He was confirmed dead at the location by the medical team,” he said.
The couple’s daughter, seated in the rear of the vehicle, sustained injuries to her face and body and was rushed to Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital (HPSF) in Muar for urgent treatment.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the accident, which is being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” Superintendent Roslan added.

Mohd Khalid Mohd Aris, Operations Commander of the Gambir Fire and Rescue Station, said the department received an emergency call at 4.42pm and deployed six personnel with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) to the scene to extricate the victims.
“The deceased was trapped in the front passenger seat, while the wife, who was driving the MPV, survived the crash. Firefighters removed the body using specialised equipment before handing it over to the police for further action,” he stated. - March 29, 2026
