MALAYSIA has underscored its enduring humanitarian resolve by dispatching 30 containers of relief supplies to Gaza, part of the Emergency Aid Mission and the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0, which departed last night.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim affirmed that despite Malaysia facing economic and geopolitical pressures arising from the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, the country remains resolute in supporting the people of Palestine.
“The people in Gaza are still struggling; they are starving. Yet even in our own difficulties, we try to help those who are worse off than us.
“This is the spirit we must uphold. That is why I support Selangor Chief Minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari leading the Malaysian delegation in this aid mission,” he said during the Madani Community Engagement Ceremony at Taman Perpaduan Koperasi, Tambun near Ipoh today.
Also present at the event were Perak Chief Minister Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Perak State Secretary Datuk Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim.
Anwar revealed that he personally contacted Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to secure permission for the Rafah border to be opened, allowing the aid mission to reach Gaza.
“Some people joke about me making the call, but if I hadn’t contacted the President, the aid mission could not have passed through the Rafah border.
“He considers us a friend, so I asked for help to open the passage for our supplies. These 30 containers carry food and medical aid for Gaza,” he explained.
The Prime Minister stressed that Malaysia is committed to maintaining positive relations with all nations, independent of external pressure, and retains the sovereign right to set its own foreign policy.
“We must be friends with everyone. We do not wait for the United States to approve or disapprove. Malaysia is free and independent. We have the right to decide our own policies,” he said.
He highlighted that Malaysia’s cordial relations with Iran, for example, enabled Malaysian oil tankers to transit the Strait of Hormuz safely, demonstrating the practical benefits of strategic diplomacy.
The second group of volunteers for the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 (GSF 2.0) mission departed safely from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at approximately 10 pm on Friday, according to a post by @Sumudnusantaraofficial on social media.
The post confirmed that the volunteers set off with their families’ blessings and the support of Malaysians, carrying humanitarian aid as well as a symbolic message of solidarity with the people of Gaza.
“Alhamdulillah, the second batch departed safely from KLIA around 10 pm for the Break The Silence, Break The Siege mission to Gaza,” it stated.
The initiative demonstrates Malaysia’s commitment to international humanitarian efforts, showing that even a country of modest size can play a pivotal role on the global stage while pursuing independent and principled foreign policies. - April 4, 2026
