A SHOP assistant has been fined RM3,500 by a Magistrates’ Court in Kula Lumpur after admitting to peeping at a woman inside a toilet at the Sentul Light Rail Transit station, in a case that has raised renewed concerns over safety in public facilities.
Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin imposed the sentence on Abdul Samad Rosman, 23, after he pleaded guilty to the charge. The court also ordered that he serve four months’ imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
According to the charge, the accused insulted the modesty of a 44-year-old woman while she was in the women’s restroom at the station at about 8am on April 16.
The offence was prosecuted under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which provides for a sentence of up to five years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Syafika Azwa Fikri urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence, stressing the importance of safeguarding public dignity and safety.
Defence counsel CH Low, representing the accused through the National Legal Aid Foundation, appealed for a lenient penalty, citing his client’s family responsibilities and remorse.
“OKT (person accused) regrets and is remorseful for the act and his early guilty plea has saved the court’s time.
“He also apologises to the court and the victim’s family and promises not to repeat the same offence,” he said during proceedings. - April 20, 2026
