THE fatal accident on the Maju Expressway (MEX) that killed a Bangladeshi man is being investigated for murder.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Head, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa, said the investigation into the case was being conducted under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The case was previously investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of alcohol, causing death.
According to Mohd Zamzuri, a five-day remand order against the suspect was issued by Magistrate Puan Guftan Nor Asyikin Murlikamal at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD) remand room, Dang Wangi IPD, at 10.45 am.
"The court allowed the suspect to be remanded until April 28. If convicted, the murder charge carries the death penalty or imprisonment for between 30 and 40 years and whipping if the death penalty is not imposed," he said in a brief statement today.
Following the incident at 5.38 am yesterday, a 31-year-old military officer was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, causing a fatal accident on the highway.
In the incident at Kilometre 1.9 of the route from Salak Selatan towards Jalan Tun Razak, the suspect, who was driving a Ford Fiesta, is believed to have lost control before entering the opposite lane and crashing into a Perodua Alza, which was being used as an e-hailing vehicle, in the left lane.
The e-hailing vehicle was carrying two Bangladeshi passengers from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
Muzahid Millad, 22, the male passenger sitting in the middle passenger seat, suffered serious head injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene, while his wife, Nafisa Tabassum Adiba, 23, was injured and is receiving treatment at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).
The e-hailing driver suffered head injuries, while the military officer and a 36-year-old female passenger in his car were also injured. All victims were taken to the same hospital for treatment.
The breathalyser test results for the Ford Fiesta driver found that his alcohol reading was above the permitted limit, while the drug test showed a negative result.
Further investigations are still underway, including obtaining closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the scene of the incident to assist in the investigation.
The Bangladeshi man who died in the accident was yesterday identified as a well-known video game influencer from Advance Gaming.
Before the tragedy, the couple, who were originally from Habiganj, Bangladesh, had reportedly just arrived in Malaysia for a week-long holiday in the capital. – April 24, 2026
