'Don't worry, the Johor state election is not tomorrow' - Ahmad Zahid

Whether the Johor PRN would be held earlier than the Melaka PRN, Ahmad Zahid said, the matter would also be discussed with Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed that discussions on the Johor State Election (PRN) would only be discussed after obtaining the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim and the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail.

Whether the Johor PRN would be held earlier than the Melaka PRN, he said, the matter would also be discussed with Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

"I will discuss with the Menteri Besar (Onn Hafiz) after obtaining the consent of the two Tuanku (Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Ismail)," he said.

He said this during a press conference after the Umno Supreme Working Council meeting at the Johor Umno liaison office, today.

Also present were Deputy President, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and Umno Vice Presidents, Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Datuk Seri Johari Ghani.

Umno Secretary-General, Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, was also present.

On the meeting, which lasted for an hour and a half, Ahmad Zahid said that it was a normal dicussion various national issues and not about the Johor state election.

Earlier, Ahmad Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, along with the Umno top leadership, had an audience with Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Ismail at the Johor Palace, in conjunction with Umno's 80th anniversary.

He also confirmed that during the audience, the Johor state election issue was not touched.

"This morning, on behalf of Umno Malaysia and Umno Negeri Johor, I would like to thank the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Regent of Johor, who agreed to attend the photography session.

Meanwhile, Dr Asyraf Wajdi, when met after the meeting, said that a total 16,867 new members were recorded after 20 days of the Umno online membership registration system being launched. – May 11, 2026
