TWO women were killed early this morning after being thrown from a Perodua Myvi during a collision with a stalled lorry on the Batang Sadong Bridge, in an incident that also left the driver injured.

The 6.30am crash claimed the life of 19-year-old Nurfazilah Ramli at the scene, while the identity of the second female victim has yet to be confirmed, BuletinTV3 reported.

The Myvi driver, 30-year-old Harudin Ramli, sustained injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre said emergency services received an alert at 6.30am, prompting the deployment of firefighters from the Simunjan Fire and Rescue Station.

“The team arrived at 6.51am and found that the crash involved a Perodua Myvi and a lorry believed to have broken down on the bridge,” the spokesperson said.

The impact of the collision caused two passengers to be ejected from the vehicle. Both women were confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel.

The lorry driver, 22-year-old Wan Aidiladha Wan Hadani, escaped unhurt.

The bodies of the victims were later handed over to police for further action.

Firefighters also carried out cleanup operations, including the removal of oil spills and debris to ensure the bridge was safe for other motorists.

The operation, involving five firefighters and a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) unit, concluded at 9.29am.

Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash. - June 9, 2026
