DATUK Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described the recent meeting between UMNO and PAS leaders as a positive step that needs to be followed up with several other actions.
The UMNO president said the meeting was held following the initiative of the leadership of both parties to resolve various issues and discuss agendas that were not solely related to politics.
"We approved of the meeting to unravel several problems and agendas that are not political. If it is related to politics, it will certainly be further refined because we are still in the Unity Government that is currently formed.
"That is our foundation and that foundation must be respected — but the door must also be opened for us to hold discussions and explore new approaches should the political dynamics shift at some point in the future," he said.
He said this when asked about the development of the results of the recent meeting between the leaders of both parties.
It was earlier reported that PAS President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang confirmed that he had been informed about the meeting between his party's leadership and UMNO in the capital and referred to the meeting as ‘normal', which he did not attend.
Ahmad Zahid, meanwhile, was reported to have said that the meeting only discussed collaboration to ensure that the country's political stability is maintained.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said that he was confident that there was no problem or difference of opinion that could not be resolved if all parties were prepared to discuss.
"I am confident that there is no problem that cannot be resolved, there is no difference of opinion that cannot be reconciled," he added. – June 9, 2026
