A 14-YEAR-OLD girl has become the victim of a horrific gang rape inside her own home, leading to the arrest of four men including a foreign national in the eastern Sabah district of Lahad Datu.

The incident took place at approximately two o'clock in the morning on 9 May, when the teenager was sleeping entirely alone inside her bedroom.

A male suspect entered the room, closely followed by three other accomplices, all of whom are reported to be in their twenties.

The victim's family only discovered the assault several days after the incident occurred, prompting them to immediately lodge a formal report with the local authorities.

Lahad Datu District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Dzulbaharin Ismail, confirmed that an immediate investigation successfully led to the tracking down and apprehension of the suspects.

“The individuals in custody comprise three local men and one foreigner, all aged in their twenties.

"All suspects are now remanded for seven days to assist in further investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 375B of the Penal Code," Dzulbaharin said in a media statement released on Tuesday night.

Following the shocking nature of the assault, the district police chief issued an urgent reminder to families regarding the safety and social environments of minors to prevent further tragedies.

"In relation to this, I advise parents and guardians to always monitor their children's interactions and friendships to prevent them from being exposed to social ills and becoming crime victims," he said. - June 17, 2026
