JOHOR Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi is expected to defend his state seat in the upcoming 16th Johor state election, effectively putting to rest speculation that he may shift to a parliamentary constituency in the next general election.

The Machap assemblyman said he has no intention of moving to federal politics, stressing that his responsibilities in Johor remain unfinished and require his continued attention.

“If given the opportunity, I would be honoured to continue serving Bangsa Johor. Johor is where I belong, and I want to keep contributing here.

“That remains my priority,” he said during a media interview at the Menteri Besar’s official residence in Saujana earlier today.

Onn Hafiz added that his focus remains on sustaining the state’s development trajectory in line with the Johor Maju 2030 vision, noting that while progress has been made, significant work still lies ahead.

“Every day is a day to serve the people. We have built strong development momentum, and if we are given the mandate again, we will continue pushing forward,” he said.

He acknowledged that the Johor Maju 2030 agenda is only midway through its implementation, with more initiatives needed to ensure that growth benefits are felt across the state.

In the 2022 Johor state election, Onn Hafiz secured the Machap seat with a majority of 6,543 votes.

He was subsequently appointed Johor’s 19th Menteri Besar after Barisan Nasional formed the state government, winning 40 out of 56 seats.

Onn Hafiz is also the great-grandson of Onn Jaafar, the founder and first president of UMNO. – June 18, 2026
