PM warns, culture of 'support letters' must be stopped
“I have warned that we will help leaders who have capabilities," said Anwar - July 4, 2026

PRIME Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, warned that the culture of using support letters among Bumiputera agencies to obtain funding approvals must be stopped if the applicant is not eligible.

He stressed that the old practice has been inherited for a long time and can affect the performance of Bumiputera agencies.

“Then we can really focus on building and developing Bumiputera companies that have capabilities and weaknesses. I don't care about the branch head or the division head.

“I have warned that we will help leaders who have capabilities. If we only use support letters, that is a step towards jeopardising the agencies that we have inherited for decades.

"Why do we use loans? Because one is closely related to those people or the yellow, green, and blue letters. This is the problem that is ruining us; in the end, we help, and the business is closed because those people are not committed," he said.

Anwar said that, under his administration, such a culture has been curbed and has become a priority of the MADANI Government to ensure that good governance continues to be strengthened.

"As we know, because there were reports in the past about loans, what is the first step? The office is beautiful, then the vehicle, then they take on a second wife.

"So his activity is to sell licenses and get commissions. This needs to be stopped. We all talk about it to be popular, but we don't dare to criticise the irregularities that exist. Not a little.

"I know many are not happy with my aggression like this, but this is the reality. How many tens of billions are lost?" he stressed again.

He said this when officiating SParK 2026: Business Transformation, the main platform of Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB), today.
