FORMER Tabung Haji (TH) Chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and former Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah were remanded for seven days each.
Magistrate Ezrene Zakaria issued the remand orders, effective until Sept 2, at the magistrate's court following an application by MACC.
It is understood that both suspects were detained under Section 23 (1) of the MACC Act 2009.
The duo, both handcuffed and wearing lock-up attire, arrived at 9.30 am accompanied by MACC investigating officers for the remand application.
The remand was to assist investigations following issues raised in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) Report on TH.
Earlier, a former chief executive officer of TH was remanded for another four days until August 31.
The RCI report, spanning 211 pages, was made public on July 29 after examining TH’s management and operations between 2014 and 2020.
Following its release, MACC formed a special investigation team to examine the findings, including TH’s investments, contracts, agreements, meeting minutes and documents relating to investment decisions.
The agency had previously said it opened 14 investigation papers, searched 28 premises and recorded statements from 115 witnesses.
Seven people, including four former senior TH management officials, had also been detained to assist with the probe.
The investigation covers possible offences including corruption, misappropriation, forgery of documents, abuse of power and money laundering.
The RCI was established amid concerns over an estimated RM11 billion gap between TH’s assets and liabilities, as well as questions over compliance with laws governing the institution. – August 26, 2026
