TEACHERS accused of sexual misconduct or inappropriate relationships with pupils will be removed from schools and placed at district or state education offices while investigations are ongoing, Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad (pic) said.
He said the measure was an initial step by the Education Ministry (MOE) to ensure teachers facing such allegations no longer had contact with pupils during investigations.
“If there are allegations related to sexual harassment with a pupil, we will investigate the teacher and, as an initial action, separate the teacher from the pupil.
“This means the teacher will no longer be assigned to a school,” he said today.
Mohd Azam was commenting on a case involving a female teacher who was allegedly in an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old male pupil.
The alleged relationship came to light after the pupil’s family and school became aware of a video involving the pair.
The teacher, who is in her 30s, was alleged to have taken the pupil to several hotels in Seri Kembangan near Serdang and met him at her home.
According to a source, the pupil alleged that the teacher initially invited him out for a walk and a meal before taking him to a hotel in Seri Kembangan.
The teacher was also alleged to have committed sexual acts and recorded them on her mobile phone.
The pupil and school were subsequently said to have lodged police reports, following which police arrested the teacher in Bandar Kinrara at about 10.30pm on Monday.
The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
Mohd Azam said a teacher could subsequently be suspended if a police investigation progressed to the court mention stage, with the teacher receiving half their salary during the suspension.
“For example, if there is an allegation at the police level, the case will follow criminal procedures.
“Then, if there is a case mention, we will suspend the teacher. This means the teacher will receive only half of their salary.
“When the sentence has been handed down and if the teacher is found guilty, the teacher will follow whatever punishment is ordered by the court.
“At our level, disciplinary action will also be taken, whether dismissal or otherwise. This is the usual procedure we will take when there is a case of this nature,” he said. - September 24, 2026
