SANDAKAN – DAP reps here remain tight-lipped over Elopura assemblyman Calvin Chong’s criticism of the move to open up a new service centre in Bandar Kim Fung.
Sabah DAP acting chairman Datuk Frankie Poon and Amsi Liew, chairman of the service centre in question, refused to comment on the matter.
On January 4, Chong hit out at Liew, who is also state DAP organising vice-secretary, for opening the centre in his constituency without first consulting or notifying him.
Chong said Liew disrespected him, and that the move to open another service centre in an area where there are already two others is a waste of money.
He also said he has often been sidelined in the party.
Chong told The Vibes that his discontent is not over the setting up of another centre per se, but rather, the manner in which it was done.
“I fully support the party opening another branch. However, why open it within 1km of two existing DAP service centre branches in Bandar Letat?
“If it is for the good of the party, there are other places without a DAP service centre, for instance in Mile 8, Sg Sibuga, Sg Manila or Gum Gum.”
He hinted that he is suspicious of Liew’s intention behind opening the centre in Bandar Kim Fung, which is in the heart of Chong’s constituency.
Chong said he has submitted a complaint over Liew’s action to DAP leaders at the state and central levels, as well as to Parti Warisan Sabah, but has yet to get a response.
“Liew never contacted me after I released my statement. He never called me, never talked to me about this matter.”
Sandakan MP Vivian Wong, meanwhile, said she is aware of Chong’s statement, and expressed hope that all party members will focus on serving the people. – The Vibes, January 11, 2021
