KOTA KINABALU – A suspect has been arrested over the rape of a disabled woman, 29, at a budget hotel here on February 4.

A police report was filed against the suspect, 34, after the victim told her mother and sister about the incident.

District police chief Habibi Majinji today said the victim, who lives with her mother, has a disabled persons card due to a mental condition.

He said the victim became acquainted with the suspect after he messaged her on her mobile phone, adding the man’s number was not even stored in the victim’s device.

According to Habibi, the suspect had invited the victim for a meet-up and picked her up in his car.

Another person was also inside the car when they picked up the woman near her mother’s house about 10pm.

The suspect later took the victim to a budget hotel some 40km away from her home.

“He then raped the victim inside a hotel room while the other individual stayed in the car,” Habibi said.

Habibi said the suspect later drop the victim off along a road leading to her house about midnight.

He said the victim’s mother suspected something amiss and, after pressing her to divulge what had happened, the victim revealed she was raped.

“A report was lodged at the Menggatal police station on February 5.

“The victim was taken to Likas Hospital for a check-up, where a doctor confirmed a genital injury was found,” he said.

Habibi said the suspect was arrested on February 6 at 5.30am in Ranau town, some 105km from here.

Police are probing the case under Section 376 of the Penal Code. – The Vibes, February 14, 2021
