MIRI – Three new Covid-19 clusters emerged in Sarawak today, of which one is in the Miri and Bintulu districts up north and one other in Samarahan district down south.
While the death toll in Sarawak remains at 101, there were 267 new cases detected today.
The State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the new Jalan Gridbid Cluster in Miri district was detected in a housing estate near Lutong township.
In a press statement, the secretariat said the index case, a 71-year old man, infected 46 others in the housing area.
The index case for the Kg Baru Hilir cluster in the Samarahan district involved a 65-yr old village man.
“A total of 73 people have been infected today in that village,” said the secretariat.
In the new Jalan Tg Kidurong cluster in Bintulu district, a 50-year old man in a resettlement scheme was found positive with Covid-19 and infected 42 other people.
“Active screenings are being done now in (areas where) all the new clusters (are),” said the secretariat.
It added 276 patients have been discharged from hospitals statewide.
Bintulu district recorded 44 new cases, Miri (40), Sibu (49), Samarahan (31), Kuching (19), Serian (19), Bukit Mabong (13), Julau (10) and numerous other districts logged less than 10 new cases.
There are 36 active clusters throughout the state. The secretariat once again stressed on the need for everyone to obey all the standard operating procedures.
The secretariat also said that the conditional movement control order (CMCO) will be extended until April 12 at least in Sarawak due to the high rate of infections.
The enhanced MCO will be in Kg Chupak and Kg Batu Gong from Monday.
