MIRI – Sarawak has recorded a rise in the number of children contracting Covid-19, said state Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Sharing the latest information via his official chat groups, Dr Sim said the majority of these kids caught the virus from their parents or other adults living with them, who were infected at the workplace.
“For example, in Miri, there are cases of entire families getting Covid-19, including the children. The adults got Covid-19 from their workplace and brought it home.”
The trend shows that workplaces are high-risk areas, he said.
“In Bintulu, it was found that even when some workers showed Covid-19 symptoms, they still turned up for work. It is clear that Covid-19 is spreading at the workplace.”
He said it is vital for those feeling unwell to stay away from the workplace, and immediately undergo health screenings and Covid-19 swab tests.
“Do not go to work if you are showing Covid-19 symptoms, such as loss of smell and taste. Get a swab test done immediately, even if the symptoms are mild.
“Stay away from your workplace. Otherwise, the virus may be transmitted to your colleagues, who will infect their families and communities.”
Sarawak yesterday extended its conditional movement control order until April 26, as its virus infection and death tolls continue to climb.
The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat yesterday said 117 Covid-19 fatalities have been recorded, with 44 active clusters statewide. – The Vibes, April 9, 2021
