KUALA LUMPUR – Netizens were up in arms over the latest movement control order (MCO) imposed throughout six districts in Selangor.
Many of them took to Twitter to air their frustrations on the MCO announced by senior minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.
The netizens also complained of apparently how disorganised the government is despite this not being the first time they are making this type of announcement, along with the lack of sufficient notice and of useful details on the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
The issue has led the keywords “Selangor”, “MCO 3.0”, and “Raya” to become trending topics on the microblogging platform.
Twitter user Abraham, who carries the handle @abrahammchew, was among those who were in the dark on the SOPs.
Ah yes finally a 3rd mco but the government still cant provide a detailed follow up as per how serious THEY want this mco is. Exquisite clownery. ??

Like her fellow Twitter users, Melursam pointed out that the MCO is redundant if some economic activities are allowed to run.
“MCO but factories not closed is of no use. Closing (businesses) here and there, no dine-in (allowed), no malls, but we are not the cause of the high cases.”
MCO tapi kilang tak tutup pun no use tau. Tutup sana tutup sini, no dine-in, no malls, tapi kita bukan punca case tinggi ?

Another user Kheri ridiculed the move with a dose of sarcasm.
The government and opposition have somehow figured out tht the word MCO/PKP has an effect on the virus just by using the word. According to their logic the virus should now start to miraculously disappear.

In a press conference today, Ismail Sabri announced that six of Selangor’s nine districts will be placed under the MCO from May 6 to 17.
The areas are Hulu Langat, Petaling, Gombak, Klang, Kuala Langat and Sepang.
The other three districts, namely Kuala Selangor, Sabak Bernam and Hulu Selangor, remain under the conditional MCO.
Ismail Sabri said that the decision was made following a proposal from Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and the state National Security Council, as well as a risk assessment.
“This decision was made after taking into account the spike in cases, and to break the Covid-19 chain. Selangor has recorded a high number of cases since April 2 until today,” he said.
After some confusion on interdistrict travel, Science, Innovation, and Technology Minister Khairy Jamaluddin clarified that those heading for the vaccination appointments would not need to seek permission to do so from authorities.
“For MCO districts, you WILL be allowed to cross district lines for your vaccination appointment. Just show proof of your appointment on (contact tracing app) MySj (MySejahtera), website, or SMS at district boundaries. You will not require a letter from the police,” Khairy said on Twitter. – The Vibes, May 4, 2021
