MIRI – Sarawak will be imposing a 14-day curfew from tomorrow, banning movement between 10pm and 5am except for emergencies, including those working in essential sectors.
This is among the state’s stricter movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedures in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Another ruling is that children below the age of 12 are barred from entering public places and crowded areas, such as malls. However, going out for medical treatments is allowed.
These measures will be enforced by the National Security Council and Sarawak Disaster Management Committee, and are expected to end on June 11.
The committee will also ensure those celebrating Gawai Dayak in longhouses are monitored by their village chiefs and committees.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg has announced RM1.4 billion worth of financial aid for those affected by MCO 3.0.
He said those in the business sectors, like tourism operators, as well as traders and low-income families stand to benefit from the assistance.
One of the 15 categories of aid is a one-off payment of RM250 per month for the B40 groups, he added, saying that they will get the handouts between July and December.
He also said the Covid-19 vaccination will be rolled out faster in the coming months.
National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has pledged to help Sarawak hasten its vaccination drive, saying that the state is expected to be the first state in the country to complete the programme and have its population fully vaccinated
