KUALA LUMPUR – The National Security Council (NSC) has announced the extension of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) in 15 subdistricts in Besut, Terengganu as Covid-19 infections continue to grow unabated in those areas.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the extended EMCO would apply to the subdistricts from June 5 until June 18.
In a press statement, he said to date the Health Ministry (MoH) had detected 281 Covid-19 cases from a total of 3,569 screenings there.
“The ministry has found a continuous spread among residents with new cases recorded in the said locality,” he said.
He said the extension was made after conducting risk assessments by various agencies under the MCO Technical Taskforce and advice from MoH.
Ismail Sabri said a similar extension has been imposed in the Kepulauan Tumpat locality under the Sungai Pinang subdistrict in Tumpat, Kelantan, from June 5 until June 18.
He said MoH has traced 239 Covid-19 cases there to date, from a total of 1,462 screenings.
On areas to be newly placed under EMCO, Ismail said Kg Pengaraban in Kudat, Kg Sugud in Penampang, and another four localities in Sabah will have the tightened movement restrictions between June 5 and June 18.
He added that the Ladang Chin Teck locality in Muadzam Shah at Rompin, Pahang and the Sigah anak Lak Longhouse at Sungai Baoh Burak, Dalat in Mukah, Sarawak will also be placed under EMCO during the same period.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the EMCO will be ended in the following areas from June 4:
- Rumah Awam Kos Rendah (RAKR) Pelagat 3, Besut, Terengganu;
- Rumah Banjir Kuala Teh, Jerantut, Pahang;
- Kg Indani, Semporna, Sabah;
- Kg Pisang, Tawau, Sabah;
- Pengkalan Hulu, Taiping, Hulu Kinta (covering Lahat, Chemor, Ipoh and Tanjung Rambutan) and Hulu Bernam Timur, Perak;
- Bagan Serai and Parit Buntar in Perak (from June 9 and June 10 respectively);
- Kg Terusan at Mukim Limbat, Pasir Tumboh, Kelantan; and
- Kg Boyan at Kuching, Sarawak.
On another matter, Ismail Sabri said 939 individuals were issued compounds yesterday, while 47 were remanded, and another one was released on bail for numerous offences related to standard operating procedures during the current full MCO.
Among the recorded offences were failure to wear masks (218 cases), crossing state or district lines or entering premises without permission (196), failure to record details when entering premises (135), carrying excessive passengers on vehicles (127), failure to observe social distancing (68), having entertainment activities (35), failure to comply with instructions (12) and others (71).
Ismail Sabri also said that the authorities arrested 11 illegal immigrants and seized one land vehicle related to migrant trafficking yesterday. – The Vibes, June 3, 2021
