KOTA KINABALU – Parti Warisan Sabah president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is expected to have an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today.

A source close to the Semporna MP told The Vibes that the Sabah opposition leader left for Kuala Lumpur last night but could not confirm the time of his meeting.

“From what I was informed last night when I met him, he is expected to meet the king today.

“But he will be on standby like the rest who are now waiting to be called in to go to the Istana,” the source said, adding that it looks like the invites only went out to party presidents.

Shafie, who is the immediate former Sabah chief minister, recently pressed for resumption of Parliament as he warned of the worsening Covid-19 situation in the country.

“We cannot allow this situation to worsen and now is the time for a conventional parliamentary sitting. It is fundamental for lawmakers to meet.”

The Vibes had also learnt that PBS leader Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili, who is stranded in Kuala Lumpur due to the lockdown, is expected to have an audience with the Agong.

One of his aides told The Vibes said Ongkili is on standby to meet the Agong this week as well

When pressed for more details, the aide said the matter is “sulit” (confidential).

Meanwhile, in a statement, Sarawak Chief Minister and GPS chief Datuk Abang Johari Openg will be meeting the Agong in a virtual meeting next week.

Johari is also representing GPS component party PBB. The other three leaders joining the meet are the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president’s representative Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing, Parti Rakyat Bersatu Sarawak (SUPP) president’s representative Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, and Parti Demokratik Progresif (PDP) president’s representative Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. – The Vibes, June 9, 2021
