MIRI – Sarawak will liaise with the National Security Council (NSC) on whether to extend the movement control order (MCO) in the state beyond June 28.
Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg said the state government is waiting to discuss with NSC.
“NSC is going to meet soon. We will also be in contact with them (online) when they meet (in Putrajaya).
“We will await their decision on whether to extend the MCO beyond June 28,” he told a press conference after visiting a vaccination centre at the Samajaya industrial estate in Kuching today.
He said state authorities are fully focused on the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive, with the aim of attaining herd immunity as soon as possible.
He stressed that the state government will help Sarawakians without identity cards get vaccinated.
“We want every Sarawakian to be vaccinated. Those who are still without an identity card must approach their village headmen for assistance, and to certify that they are indeed locals.
“This confirmation is sufficient for them to get vaccinated.”
There is an estimated 60,000 people in Sarawak still without a birth certificate or MyKad.
Many were born in remote settlements, with their parents facing logistical challenges to register births with the National Registration Department. – The Vibes, June 25, 2021
