KUALA LUMPUR – Local philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, popularly known as Uncle Kentang, expects to remain warded for at least another day at Serdang Hospital after being admitted there yesterday for Covid-19.
The activist, providing an update of his status through his official Facebook account, said doctors have yet to give him the green light to be discharged.
“Sorry, I cannot leave the ward yet. Doctors want to monitor further. Have to extend my stay by a day,” he wrote on his account.
Kuan was admitted into Serdang Hospital yesterday evening and was later diagnosed as a Category 4A patient.
The category refers to a stage where breathing assistance is often required.
His admission to the hospital came just hours after he complained on social media of high fever and sore throat.
However, he tested negative for the virus upon undergoing a screening on Sunday.
He said that his condition had improved yesterday, with the fever and sore throat partially subsiding, but later posted an update of him being admitted for Covid-19 at around 5.30pm.
Kuan, whose page has been flooded by comments from thousands of well-wishers, also provided periodical updates on his admission, with details such as what he is served for meals.
He also managed to post an update seeking help for a homeless man, just hours after lamenting how his humanitarian work would have to slow down with him still admitted.
The former policeman even shared tips for those admitted for Covid-19, pointing out several essential items one might need during their admission.
As the updates rolled in, Kuan had even expressed his optimism at possibly being discharged today, saying he might be allowed to observe the rest of his recovery under home quarantine, just before doctors decided to keep him for another day. – The Vibes, February 8, 2022.
