KUALA LUMPUR – Celebrity actor and director Datuk Afdlin Shauki has lodged a police report against PKR’s election committee at the Jalan Pudu police station last night, claiming various discrepancies during the party’s Setiawangsa division polls recently.
According to FMT, Afdlin claimed that ballot papers were missing during the vote counting session during the Setiawangsa PKR division polls held during the party election last month.
Speaking to reporters after lodging the report, he claimed that the number of physical votes amounted to 750 but only 528 were recorded on the election committee’s system.
“There was a significant difference with 222 votes lost just like that,” he was quoted as saying.
Additionally, Afdlin also alleged that the party’s election committee had appointed the former Setiawangsa PKR secretary as the polling station coordinator, while a husband of one of the candidates was allowed to work in the polling station during election day.
“These appointments are seen as biased as both of them have a direct relationship with the candidates.
“There is no guarantee of transparency and integrity as they are also members of the party and not neutral parties with no interest in the polls,” he was quoted as saying.
Setiawangsa MP and incumbent division chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad had successfully defended his post against Afdlin with 482 votes to 372.
The PKR election concluded on May 28 following a re-voting exercise conducted for 12 divisions across five states.
Amongst low voter turnout and claims of discrepancy, PKR election committee chief Dr Zaliha Mustafa has since stated that a decision will be made within a week from May 31 on whether a forensic audit on the results is required.
PKR is set to announce the official results during its upcoming congress on June 25 and June 26. – The Vibes, June 7, 2022
