KOTA KINABALU – The public health services have come under fire following a stillbirth allegedly caused by negligence at the hands of health workers, said state Community Development and People’s Wellbeing minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya today.
He admitted that many netizens are unhappy and expressed their anger over the incident on social media, saying that if such “attacks” continue health workers would become demotivated at work.
“If there had been negligence or incompetence on their part, we should let the Health Ministry and the (Sabah) Health Department complete their investigation,” he said, referring to the ongoing probe into the stillbirth.
Shahelmey was speaking to reporters after the launch of the electric bus pilot programme at the Sabah International Convention Centre here today.
He said netizens should observe the fifth Rukun Negara principle – courtesy and morality – and wait for the probe’s findings.
He added that he met state Health Director Datuk Dr Rose Nani Mudin to establish corporate communication units at general hospitals and health facilities as part of community engagements and addressing controversies.
“This way the public health services can also control what information could be disclosed to the public.”
Recently, a social media post went viral after allegations of negligence that led to a stillbirth. This drew numerous comments from former patients who shared their negative experiences at public healthcare facilities.
