KUALA LUMPUR – The police have summoned 10 Pakatan Harapan leaders for questioning for participating in a protest against the rising cost of goods yesterday.
English portal MalaysiaKini reported that the Dang Wangi district police headquarters had launched an investigation under Section 9 (5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
Amanah legal bureau lawyer Fadhli Umar Aminolhuda had reportedly told them in a statement that his team will accompany the leaders to give their statements to the authorities at 10am on Monday.
Even though Fadhli did not reveal the name of those who had been called up by the boys in blue, Johor DAP deputy chief Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali had posted on his Facebook page that the police have been in touch.
After Friday prayers yesterday, the group of around 200 people held a brief protest outside of Masjid Jamek in Kg Baru.
However, less than 20 minutes into the rally, organisers called for the crowd to disperse.
Some of the opposition reps present include Amanah communications director Khalid Samad, Taman Templer assemblyperson Sany Hazman, and Permatang Pasir assemblyperson Faiz Fadzil.
They demanded Putrajaya introduce subsidies, dismantle the approved permit system and call for a special Parliamentary session to discuss the national food security issues.
Amanah mobilisation chief Sany Hamzan gave the government until July 16 to address the matter, warning that the party will organise a bigger gathering if no substantive action is taken. – The Vibes, July 2, 2022
