KOTA BARU – The new Kota Baru Sentral Integrated Bus Terminal is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, said state Public Works, Infrastructure, Transport and Utilities Committee chairman Datuk Azami Mohd Noor.
He said the state government had embarked on an initiative to build a new integrated bus terminal to replace the temporary bus terminal in the Lembah Sireh by issuing a request for proposal (RFP) for the Kota Baru Sentral Integrated Transport Terminal development project by the end of 2020.
“Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the RFP process was slightly disrupted, and the state government on June 1, 2022, selected a company listed on the stock exchange main board to implement the Kota Baru Sentral development on 17.37 acres of land comprising integrated bus terminal, commercial buildings, and apartments.
“The new integrated bus terminal is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 while the rest of the development will be completed within nine years,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters on the sideline of the Kelantan state assembly sitting in Kota Darulnaim, today.
Meanwhile, commenting further on the water problem in Kelantan, Azami said Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd has planned long-term approaches such as upgrading raw water resources, upgrading and building new water treatment plants (LRAs) as well as implementing a dilapidated pipe replacement programme to reduce non-revenue water (NRW) rates.
“Currently, the source of raw water for public water supply services in Kelantan is through river water abstraction (47%), river water filtration (29%) and groundwater (24%). Plans have been made to retain river water, a water reservoir known as Takungan Air Pinggiran Sungai (TAPS) and a dam.
“The proposed construction of TAPS with a capacity of 500 million litres per day (MLD) has been planned in Labok, Machang, and this proposal has been submitted to the federal government for approval for implementation in the third rolling plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan,” he said.
He said once the TAPS project is completed in 2027, the supply of raw water in the northern part of the Kelantan river basin would increase.
“The abstraction of raw water through the dam will be realised when the Nenggiri dam construction project is completed. It has already started this year and is expected to be completed in 2027,” he said. – Bernama, July 18, 2022
