MIRI – A large section of the population in Kuching continued to suffer water supply disruption today due to the ongoing repair of a major pipeline that suffered a burst yesterday morning.
The Kuching Water Board has issued another alert to the residents on the disruptions.
It said that the burst pipe located at the BDC housing estate area near Kuching International Airport is still undergoing repair.
Yesterday morning, Kuching residents were told to prepare for major water supply disruptions.
The unscheduled water supply woes are affecting many populated localities due to damage to the 840mm pumping main at BDC.
Among the areas affected are Jln Song Thian Cheok, Jln Padungan, Jln Abell, Jln Chan Chin Ann, Jln Bukit Mata, Jln Ban Hock, Jln Dtk Abg Abd Rahim, Jln Datuk Wee Kheng Chiang, Jln Petanak, Jln Blacksmith, Jln Sungai Padungan, Jln Rumbia, Jln Pending, Jln Central, Jln Nipah and Jln Batu Lintang, as well as surrounding areas that will be experiencing low water pressure or no supply.
Water tankers have been deployed to affected zones. Residents in Kuching are busy storing water as fast as they can before the supplies are severed.
The affected areas are among the most densely populated localities in the state capital.
They cover commercial centres, housing estates and many office buildings housing government departments and private companies.
Kuching has a population of about 700,000.
The last major water disruption in Sarawak happened early last month in Miri city, affecting more than 350,000 people.
That Miri incident was also due to a burst along a pipeline measuring a metre in diameter. The water woes lasted a whole week. – The Vibes, July 20, 2022
