KUALA LUMPUR – Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) has accepted Tronoh assemblyman Paul Yong’s application to take a step back from active party roles to focus on his court case.
In a statement today, PBM’s information chief Zakaria Abdul Hamid said its supreme council also resolved that a replacement will be named soon to take over Yong’s official role as the party’s treasurer and Perak chief.
“PBM’s supreme council has unanimously agreed on Paul Yong’s application to take a step back from active party roles and activities until his appeal in the courts is completed,” he said.
On July 27, the high court sentenced Yong to 13 years’ jail and two strokes of the rotan after finding him guilty of raping his former Indonesian domestic helper three years ago.
High court judge Datuk Abdul Wahab Mohamed said Yong’s defence team had failed to raise reasonable doubt against the prosecution’s case.
Meanwhile, PBM also stated that the party will hold its divisional general assembly from tomorrow till August 14 and its state general assembly from August 15 to August 29.
Similarly, PBM’s youth and women’s wings will hold their respective assemblies at every division and state on the same respective dates, while its annual general assembly will be announced in due time. – The Vibes, July 29, 2022
