KUALA LUMPUR – Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar tied the knot today with Yin Shao Loong in a quiet ceremony here attended by close friends and family members.

Nurul Izzah, the newly appointed PKR vice-president is the daughter of former deputy prime ministers Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The solemnisation ceremony took place in the family’s home in Bandar Sungai Long, Kajang.

According to sources, they have been dating for some time but managed to keep the relationship under wraps with only a few close friends and family members having knowledge of it.

Yin, 46, is a senior research associate at Khazanah Research Institute.

He once served as the strategic communications director at the Selangor Menteri Besar’s Office during Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s tenure.

Yin also served as executive director of PKR think tank Institute Rakyat which was headed by Nurul Izzah.

He was married to award-winning filmmaker Tan Chui Mui. The couple who have a young son together divorced three years ago.

Nurul Izzah, 42, meanwhile was married to businessman Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim at her parents’ home in Segambut in 2003 but was divorced on January 15, 2015.

They have two children, a 15-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy.

A close family friend said Anwar, who is the present opposition leader and Wan Azizah are extremely happy for their daughter and blessed the union by having the akad nikah at their home.

“The family is extremely delighted that Izzah has found happiness again. We wish them both a happy union blessed by Allah,” he said.

Nurul Izzah was thrust into the political limelight at the age of 18 when Anwar was sacked as deputy prime minister by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad in 1998 and jailed over trumped-up corruption and sexual offence charges.

Her political activism gained her the moniker Princess of Reformation (Puteri Reformasi) as her mother led PKR – the party formed by her parents to take on Barisan Nasional and Umno.

Meanwhile, Nurul Izzah confirmed her marriage to Yin via a Facebook posting.

“On the evening of August 5, under the guardianship of the bride’s father, we were solemnised in marriage in the presence of our immediate family.

“We ask for your blessing in your prayers – that we will always remain under the protection of Allah SWT.” – The Vibes, August 5, 2022
