KUALA LUMPUR – Newly minted PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has been appointed as the party’s leadership council chairman for Terengganu and Kelantan.

His party comrade, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, was named the leadership council chairman for Pahang.

These appointments were announced by party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in posts on Facebook this evening following meetings with the leadership councils of all three states.

The opposition leader said he had tabled the two names at all three meetings, and that the division leaders of all states had resoundingly supported his proposal.

“May Nik Nazmi muster all his strength with the state leadership in moving the team into the 15th general election (GE15),” Anwar said in one of the statements.

He said the PKR leadership in Terengganu had also agreed to have Nik Nazmi as its party chairman for the 2022-2025 term.

Last week, newly elected PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli was appointed the party’s Federal Territories leadership council chairman, while Amirudin was reappointed as the party’s Selangor leadership council chairman.

The appointment of the respective PKR state chiefs is the prerogative of the party president and follows the recently concluded party polls.

Nik Nazmi, when contacted, confirmed his appointments to the Terengganu and Kelantan leadership councils, adding that he will issue a statement on the matter soon.

The 40-year-old Nik Nazmi is also currently Setiawangsa MP and PKR’s division chief for the constituency. – The Vibes, August 7, 2022
