KUALA LUMPUR – A road mishap along the Karak-Bentong Highway heading towards Kuala Lumpur has led to major water cuts in the Klang Valley, with 397 areas affected.

In a statement today, Air Selangor announced a temporary stop work order at the Langat 2 water treatment plant from 4.30am today, after the accident caused chemical pollution in Sg Semantan, Karak, Pahang.

A total of 172 areas in Kuala Lumpur, 222 in Hulu Langat, and three others in the Petaling district are expected to face water disruptions beginning 10am.

“The Langat 2 plant is expected to resume operations at 3.30pm, to allow the restoring of treated water.

“Treated water is expected to be supplied to consumers in stages once the system stabilises,” it said.

Air Selangor added that water tankers will also be mobilised, with priority given to critical areas.

“We are taking every measure to minimise the impact of the supply disruption to affected users.”

The full list of affected areas can be found on Air Selangor’s Facebook page. – The Vibes, August 11, 2022
