KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has expressed condolences and sadness to the royal family, government and people of the United Kingdom following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

He said the queen, who was also Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, was known for her dedication to looking after the welfare of her people.

In a Facebook post, Ismail Sabri said her services in maintaining good relations between the UK and countries around the world, including Malaysia, will always be remembered and appreciated.

“I hope Her Majesty’s royal family and the people will continue to persevere in the face of this moment of grief,” he said.

Meanwhile, on his Twitter page, Ismail Sabri described the passing of the queen as a truly irreparable loss to the Commonwealth and the world.

Buckingham Palace earlier today announced Queen Elizabeth II had died at the age of 96.

Ismail Sabri also issued a letter of condolence to his UK counterpart Elizabeth Truss.

In the letter, which was shared by the Prime Minister’s Office, he said the departed monarch would always be remembered for her selfless devotion to her service.

“She will be respected dearly for her unwavering commitment to the Commonwealth and her contribution in efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between the United Kingdom and Malaysia.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved people of the United Kingdom during this time of mourning and sorrow,” he wrote. – Bernama, September 9, 2022
