PUTRAJAYA – Khairy Jamaluddin said he has no knowledge of news that Umno leaders who are not aligned with party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will be sacked from the party.
The Rembau MP was asked to comment on whether he had knowledge of such talks among Umno’s grassroots.
“Where is such news hovering? Which divisions? I have not been where this news is being talked about,” Khairy said in jest.
He was speaking to reporters after launching Malaysia’s Covid-19 Vaccination: Public Private Partnership Report at the Health Ministry’s headquarters here today.
It is set to be a nail-biting next couple of months for Umno’s Khairy, whose political fate hangs in the balance after a supposed raid on his own Rembau parliamentary seat by his party’s deputy president, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Mohamad reportedly wants to contest in Rembau, Negri Sembilan, to achieve Parliamentary presence and is also likely to defend the Rantau state assembly seat he has held since 2004.
On September 4, Khairy said that he had to comply with the order even though he was never prepared to contest in any other parliamentary constituency, considering that he had been in politics for more than 20 years in Rembau.
Earlier, the health minister received an award from the Malaysia Book of Records for having the most vaccination doses administered in a day.
The new Malaysian record was set by the Health Ministry and its healthcare scheme administrator ProtectHealth Corporation through the National Covid-19 Immunisation Program (PICK), which has been implemented since February 2021.
The award resulted from the strategic public-private partnerships throughout PICK, a challenging yet rewarding programme that was launched in an effort to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus in Malaysia.
On the distribution of the new vaccine for the new variant, Khairy said he will be announcing soon on who the recipients of this vaccine are.
“This is not a mass vaccination campaign because we found that those who are young, they are relatively healthy. So we will focus on those who are at high risk.”
“Once we have confirmed its procurement, we will make an announcement including on vaccines for children below the age of 5,” said Khairy, adding that the vaccines will be distributed free of charge. – The Vibes, September 13, 2022
