KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Rina Harun has responded to critics of her ministry’s video on a women empowerment programme, telling them not to “politicise everything”.

The women, family, and community development minister was asked to respond to flak over a promotional video by her ministry, in which she stands by smiling while actor Datuk Rosyam Nor berates women for being late.

“Let’s not politicise everything,” Rina was quoted as saying at a press conference in Sg Buloh by Free Malaysia Today.

She said people should look at the programme itself and appreciate the fact that it is aimed at helping women.

In the promotional video posted to the minister’s TikTok account, Rosyam is heard saying that women are always late, and in urging them to attend the programme, also said in jest that he would “smack their heads”.

“Everything is late when it comes to women. Wake up, wake up from your sleep!” he said in the video.

Rina has been criticised by DAP women lawmakers as well as Umno’s Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, while social media users have also panned the TikTok clip, calling it distasteful and embarrassing.  – The Vibes, September 14, 2022
