KUALA LUMPUR – The highly anticipated meeting between Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob with the top five leaders of Umno this coming Saturday (September 17) to discuss the date for the 15th general election (GE15) has been postponed.

The prime minister revealed this matter to the press at an event tonight, explaining that he is now waiting for a new date for the meeting which will be announced by party secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

“This Saturday, there was supposed to be a special meeting but it has been postponed, so we are waiting for a new date. The new date will be announced later by the secretary-general,” said Ismail Sabri.

Umno’s top five leaders are president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, and vice-presidents Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, and Ismail Sabri himself.

Ismail Sabri said this to reporters after attending the Malaysia Pavilion Dubai Expo 2020 Appreciation Ceremony at Majestic Hotel here tonight.

This follows Ismail Sabri having stated yesterday that the party’s top five leaders are expected to discuss the date for the upcoming polls.

Ismail Sabri further said that there is still a window for holding the election this year and a discussion among the party’s top five leaders could be held as soon as possible or prior to the tabling of Budget 2023 on October 7.

Previously, Ismail Sabri had moved forward the budget tabling from October 28 to this date, which led to speculation that Parliament is likely to be dissolved soon after. – The Vibes, September 14, 2022
