GEORGE TOWN – Race-centric policies have failed in Malaysia, which needs forward-thinking solutions from capable leaders, said Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
Despite rosy accounts of the economy painted by the government, the future remains bleak for the young, starting with an education system that fails to prepare them for a globalised and tech-driven world, he said.
This has caused many youngsters to leave the country, while those staying are forced to take two to three jobs to make ends meet, the Muar MP said at a fundraising dinner for Penang Muda last night.
“We want an education system which produces the best skills for our age. Many times, our students are studying things which are of no use to them when they are adults.”
Syed Saddiq added that young Malaysians want capable leaders who do not focus on race.
Whatever the government tries to portray about the country, he said the facts speak for themselves – a steadily declining ringgit, a poor education system, jobs mismatches, and an economy that is overly reliant on foreign workers.
To move ahead, Syed Saddiq said that the country needs to embrace the politics of competency and productivity to steer the nation back onto the correct path.
At a press conference, Syed Saddiq said Muda will push for “Malaysian unity” instead of “Malay unity”.
“The very leaders advocating Malay unity are the same ones trying to steal from the community. It smells of hypocrisy of the highest order.”
Syed Saddiq said that Muda will focus on addressing the need to bridge the gaps between all races, while rewarding those who are capable, regardless of ethnicity. – The Vibes, September 18, 2022
