TAWAU – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) plans to establish 177 more Keluarga Malaysia Digital Economy Centres (PEDi) in state constituencies that do not have such centres.
Communications and Multimedia Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek said there currently are 911 PEDi nationwide.
“It is the desire of the ministry, especially its minister (Tan Sri Annuar Musa) to establish these PEDi to enable all communities to benefit from the facilities provided at the centres.
“PEDi is to train small and medium-sized entrepreneurs...people only need to pay RM5 once in their lifetime. We have also placed teaching staff from various agencies under the ministry to assist with advisory services,” he told reporters here after visiting the PEDi in Taman Sri Titingan here today.
Mohammad today began an official working visit to Tawau, Semporna, Lahad Datu, and Kunak until October 3.
In the meantime, Mohammad urged the community to take advantage of PEDi in their respective areas to learn as well as increase the family's source of income.
“At PEDi, we can learn information and communications technology, as well as how to use computers, social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and online product marketing strategies.
“It has been proven for entrepreneurs who had taken advantage of PEDi and started successful businesses on the e-commerce platform, generating multiple and high incomes,” he said.
Meanwhile, he hoped the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) would consider the ministry’s application for proposals to upgrade buildings, including improving building security as well as the construction of new buildings involving agencies under the ministry.
“We have submitted (this) to the EPU. This is not only for offices but also, for example, for quarters at RTM Tawau which are in quite a poor state. We hope this application can be considered, preferably for next year, in addition to the proposal to build an RTM building in Penang,” he added. – Bernama, September 28, 2022
