KOTA KINABALU – Applications for postal voting for the vacant Bugaya state seat in Sabah are now open, the Election Commission (EC) announced today.

It said the closing date for the application period will be announced after a special meeting for the by-election on October 20, where further details will also be revealed.

“The EC has received a notification from the Sabah assembly speaker’s office over the vacant Bugaya seat on October 12.

“Therefore postal votes applications for Category 1A – election officers, EC officers, police, military, and media personnel must be done manually.

“Form 1A can be downloaded via the EC’s official website and submitted to the Election Manager,” it said in a statement today.

Applications for Categories 1B (Malaysians living overseas) and 1C (government agencies or organisations) are to be done online.

The Bugaya seat became vacant after its assemblyman Datin Manis Muka Mohd Darah of Warisan died in November 2020 following kidney problems, less than two months after the Sabah election.

She never took her oath of office after winning the seat in the state election in September 2020. – The Vibes, October 13, 2022
